Judge: ‘I’m very aware of the fact that there is a process going on’ article Police say a man is being held in custody for allegedly stabbing a woman and a child in an apparent attempt to cover up a child sex abuse ring.
The court heard that the alleged attack took place on March 6.
Police said they have charged 34-year-old Joshua G. Stancil with assault causing bodily harm and aggravated sexual assault.
They also said Stancill is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
The woman, who was stabbed in the chest, was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Stancil allegedly stabbed the woman and child several times, causing minor injuries, before fleeing the scene.
On Friday, police released surveillance footage of the alleged assault, which was captured by a neighbour.
“This is a very serious matter, and I’m very, very aware that there are a process coming on to the public right now,” said Staff Sgt. Eric McQuaid with the Calgary Police Service.
It appears the victim had been targeted and was attacked with an object in the head and chest, police said.
Witnesses described Stancils movements at the time of the incident.
One of the witness told police that Stancills vehicle was seen parked in the driveway of the home.
Another witness said that Stancers car was seen driving up and down the street.
McQuaid said police have identified three suspects: Stancilo, 19, and 18-year old Jacob Stancili, who police say are brothers.
Both men are facing numerous charges.
