Designer Jennifer Farr has spent the past several years designing a room for a multimillion-dollar house in rural North Carolina, a project she’s calling The Big House.
The $1.5 million house is located on a small tract in the woods and has been designed in such a way that it resembles a living room, but with more space and more privacy, according to Farr.
The Big House, which Farr is currently working on with a contractor, was designed by the designer to be a family home that would not be accessible by children or pets, but could be accessed with a lift and a trailer, the Raleigh News & Observer reported.
The house is equipped with an outdoor kitchen, living room table, an outdoor terrace and two bedrooms.
The living room has a small TV mounted on the wall and an open-plan living room couch, which allows children to play in the living room.
The home also has a bathroom with a built-in shower, a large walk-in closet and a laundry room, according the News & Obituary.
Farr plans to keep the home in the family for at least 20 years, which would allow it to be remodeled in the future, according AP.
“I think there are a lot of kids out there who have never had a home, who’ve never had the space to be open to the world,” Farr told the News&Obituary.
“It is the best home I’ve ever been a part of, and I really believe in my work, I believe in what I do.
I’ve been working in this industry for more than 20 years.
And I want to keep it that way, so I don’t lose my love of the outdoors and the natural beauty of the area, and the fact that I’m not a dog, a cat or a child.”
Farr also plans to donate the house to a local animal rescue organization, which will be used to help homesick dogs find homes in the area.
